I discovered a common view as people try understanding why they need to be active and earn as they transition to retirement, and not start the process in retirement. We wear our experience and knowledge as a badge and while employed seldom reap the rewards we should, we settle for the pat on the back and the odd free lunch. All experience and knowledge should be utilised to earn you equal or more than what you put in, and by equal or more I mean better than what you accept.
I sat quietly as someone explained how expectations went wrong, as an educated person of a productive work history, why is it they have no pension, some savings and not the bigger brighter picture they expected. I said you will have that big bright picture you want, you have to start thinking of your experience and knowledge as a tool and not a badge. We start by looking at what is realistic and your time window, you also have to dig deep and let go of things that are just things and open your mind to more rewarding but reasonable lifestyle options.
Many times our working mind state is so occupying that we drift into the life of television commercial sampling. Ending up with stuff . Retirement is the cold shower of reality, at this stage of life earning is limited and the cost of living or existing will always be expensive.!
